Privacy Policy
This notice explains what this website collects, why, how long it is kept, and what you can ask for. It covers this website only. Anything said or written at the studio itself is dealt with there.
What this website collects
When you send an enquiry: your name, your email address, your phone number if you give one, the placement, size and style you want, your description of the idea, any dates you say suit you, and any reference images or photograph of the area you attach.
It also records that you confirmed you are 18 or over, the date and time you confirmed it, and the version of these terms in force at that moment.
When you send a message through the contact form: your name, your email address and the message.
What this website does not collect
No health information. There is no online screening form and no way to submit health answers through this website.
No identity documents. There is no way to upload one. Photo ID is checked in person at the studio, looked at and handed back, and no copy, scan or photograph of it is taken.
No card details. Those go straight to Stripe and never reach this website.
There is no advertising on this site. The company that hosts it, WordPress.com (Automattic), records visit statistics on every page, which means it receives your IP address, your browser details, the page you opened and the page that sent you there. The studio sees only the totals.
Why, and on what basis
Your enquiry and your messages are used to answer you, to quote the work, and to arrange and run the appointment. The lawful basis is that it is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract, and then to perform it.
The record that you confirmed you are 18 or over is kept because tattooing a minor is a criminal offence and the studio has to be able to show the check was made. The lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation.
Images
Reference images and any photograph of the area are encrypted before they are stored. They are never placed in the public media library and are never part of any marketing system. They can only be opened from inside the studio’s own admin.
They are deleted 30 days after the appointment, or 30 days after the enquiry where no appointment is ever arranged, whichever applies.
Payments
Deposits are taken through Stripe. Your email address is passed to Stripe so it can send you a receipt. This website records only that a payment succeeded, the amount and a Stripe reference, so the booking can be confirmed and accounted for. Stripe is a separate data controller for the payment itself, under its own privacy policy.
How long things are kept
Images: 30 days, as above. Booking records, the payment record and the age confirmation are kept as long as they are needed for running appointments, for accounts and tax, and for dealing with any claim, then deleted or anonymised.
Who else sees it
Stripe, for payments. WordPress.com (Automattic), which hosts this website and keeps the visit statistics described above, and the service that delivers its email; both handle it only to provide that service. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising.
What you can ask for
You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, or object to how it is used. There is no charge and you will get an answer within one month.
Where one email address has been used by more than one person, a request has to be confirmed before anything is released, so that one person cannot be handed another’s records.
This section is not finished. The person or company legally responsible for this website has not been named yet. Until it is, please write to the studio at the address on the contact page and it will be dealt with.
Local authority registration: application in progress.
To ask what is held about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted, write to umbrellainkstudio@gmail.com.
Postal address: Umbrella Ink Studio, 5 Tyler Road, Staplehurst, Kent, TN120GY.
If you are not satisfied with how a request has been handled you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
